Marilyn Mae Forbes

Obituary Date: Friday, March 11, 2016

In the loving presence of her two sons, Mark and Matt, Marilyn Mae Forbes of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her home in the early morning of March 11, 2016.

Marilyn was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on June 8th, 1930. At the age of eighteen, Marilyn left Pennsylvania to attend flight attendant school in Kansas City, Missouri.

After a brief career, she returned to Pennsylvania to assist in taking care of her mother, Adda. Marilyn became an Executive Secretary for Washington National insurance Company, that is where she met her husband of sixty one years, the late Samuel Henry Forbes.

The Forbes adopted three children, Mark Stephen, Matthew Todd, and Kristie Diane Forbes. In 1967 the family moved to Tucker, Georgia. Marilyn grew to love the South, the natural beauty, the friendly neighbors, and an opportunity to start her own garden-of vegetables and flowers and tending to the lawn and shrubs, she loved the outdoors.

Marilyn spent many days tending her garden and taking care of her three children while her husband Sam travelled on business. Marilyn would take temporary jobs as an Executive Secretary, but they seemed not so temporary as her skills were exemplary. She was even recruited by President Jimmy Carter to assist with his campaign, in which she did. In retirement, Marilyn and Sam moved the shores of Lake Lanier, then eventually settled in Gainesville, Georgia. Marilyn spent the last of her years reading, watching the birds from her back porch, planting, and staying involved in her children and grandchildren's lives. Marilyn is survived by her three children, Mark, his children Elyse and Zachary, Matthew and his daughter Sophie, and Kristie and her daughters Stephanie, Julia, and her son Andrew. Also Diane Forrer and Karen Lau, children from Marilyn's beloved late brother Dutch and his late wife Jan.

We will always carry your memory in our hearts.

Memorial Services shall be held in Marilyn's former Tucker neighborhood this Saturday, March 26th at 2PM. Please contact 770-934-6994 or 404-310-4650 for further details. Internment shall be in the family plot in Pennsylvania.
