Joel Bradley Thurmond Sr.

Joel Bradley Thurmond Sr., age 63 of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016 at his residence. 

Mr. Thurmond was born August 24, 1952 in Hiawassee to the late James Carlton Thurmond and Dorothy Mae Freeman Thurmond. Joel was a heavy equipment operator and was preceded in death by his sister Lillian Shelnut and brother Lawrence Thurmond. 

Survivors include his sons and daughters, Travis and Amber Thurmond, Cleveland; Chris and Kristy Thurmond, Hayesville, NC; Brad and Kim Thurmond, Lula; daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Nathan Nix, Cleveland; brothers, Dan Thurmond, Sautee; James Leon Thurmond, Oklahoma; sister, Ellon Forrester, Cleveland; 15 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. 

Funeral services are 4:00 PM Sunday, March 13, 2016 at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Gateway Memory Park. 

The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service.
