Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Ward's Funeral Home Chapel for Tom Rider age 97 of Gainesville. Pastor Ken Ausborn will officiate. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Rider passed away Saturday February 27, 2016.
A native of Lumpkin County, Mr. Rider was born February 24, 1919 to the late Alexzander and Lizza Jane (Newberry) Rider. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gaynell Hicks Rider; daughter, Ruby Dispain; sons, Henry Hoyt Rider and J.L. Rider.
Mr. Rider served in the United States Army and was a Block and Brick Mason. He was also of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include daughters, Marie Tomlin, Agnes LaPointe and Glinda Stancil; sons, William Rider, Vernon Rider, Melvin Rider, Lynn Rider and Charles Rider; 24 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.
