Ms. Mary Iona Tumlin, age 75, of Gainesville passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at her residence, surrounded by family.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 21, 2016 in the Chapel of Memorial Park South Funeral Home with interment following at Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Danny Peek will officiate. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 19, 2016 and 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.
Born September 8th 1940, in Comer, Georgia, Mary was the daughter of Howard and Myrtle Gillespie. She retired from Avery Dennison after 19 years and ran a successful cleaning business with her sisters after retiring. Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a gentle soul and loved her scratch offs. Mary enjoyed trips to Cherokee, North Carolina and Waffle House trips with her grandchildren. She devoted many weekends to keeping her great grandchildren and watching them grow up. Mary enjoyed being outdoors and taking care of her home and her best friend and pet, Princess. She was a positive influence in many lives.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, Howard Gillespie; mother, Myrtle Gillespie; eldest sister, Evelyn Gillespie; and her Grandparents. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dena & Lynn Collins of Braselton; son & daughter-in-law, Matt & Susie Tumlin of Gainesville; son Robert "Bobby" Tumlin of Gainesville; sisters, Jean Davis of Franklin County, Georgia and Jeanette Gillespie of Gainesville; brother-in-law, Paul Davis ; granddaughter, Krystal Tumlin of Flowery Branch; grandson and wife, Shawn and Ashley Tumlin of Gainesville; and three great grandchildren, Cadence, Shannen, and Easton Tumlin; step granddaughter and husband, Becky and Andy Martin; step great grandchildren, Chezlee and Chase Eller; Jimmy, Emily, Mckenzie Orr; and a large number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
