William James “Jim” Robinson, age 86 of Gainesville, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at his residence following an extended illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, February 19, 2016 at 11:00am in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with Dr. Tom Smiley, Dr. Jerry Gill, Rev. Don Ormsbee and Rev. Robert Puckett officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 18, 2016 from 4:00-6:00pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Robinson was born February 3, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to William Ray Robinson and Maxie Melrose Smith Robinson. Mr. Robinson’s first job was working for the Gainesville Midland Railroad, followed by being owner of Robinson Tire and Recapping. Later he worked and retired from Harris Calorific, then worked at Bi-Lo in the produce department. Afterward employed by Ingles. He loved meeting and talking with the customers. Mr. Robinson was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents.
Dad’s passion was fun and family. Our favorite memories with him are boating and skiing on Lake Lanier and hiking the Appalachian Trail. He was always a great encourager. His love for us was unconditional. He loved reading his Bible.
Mr. Robinson is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley Dougherty Robinson of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Robin Robinson Callahan (Robin Lee) of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda Robinson Gaffney (Jeff) of Simpsonville, SC; granddaughter, Victoria Leigh Callahan of Savannah; grandson, Brooks Davidson Callahan of Gainesville and grandson, Jacob Jeffrey Gaffney of Elkhart, Indiana.
Flowers will be accepted but those who wish may make contributions to Lakewood Baptist Church or to the charity of your choice.
