Tommy (Coot) Thompson, Jr., age 70, of Cumming passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016. Tommy was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Vietnam. He had a heart of gold and never met a stranger. Tommy retired as a letter carrier from the U.S. Postal Service after 20 years of service. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Tommy and Bertha Thompson, 2 sisters, Shirley Perry and Averill Gilbert and a brother, Joe Lee Thompson.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Kimberly Thompson of Cumming; former wife and best friend, Gail Burnley Thompson of Smyrna; grandchildren, James Reice Thompson, Jenna Kay Thompson, Juliana Hope Thompson, Brett Hudson Thompson; his dog, Sadie; brothers, Allen Thompson of Hampton, Rev. Bobby Thompson of Hampton; sisters, Frances Robinson of Luthersville, Joan Avery of Riverdale; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 18, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Thompson officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be Friday, February 19, at 10:30 a.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
