Mrs. Peggy Sue Chasteen Stephens, age 74 of Jefferson, Georgia, passed away Monday, February 15, 2016 in Athens, Georgia.
Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Jefferson. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Dr. Michael Helms will officiate.
Peggy was born in Anderson, South Carolina May 30, 1941. She was the daughter of the late William Thomas Chasteen and Ruth King Chasteen. She lived most of her life in the Atlanta area but had lived in Jefferson for the past 10 years. She was a 1959 Graduate of Lavonia High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Jefferson and previously Calvary Batpist Church in Lilburn. She worked for several large companies including Singer, Coca-Cola and Kodak.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Margaret Risner.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Harold Kay Stephens of Jefferson; daughter, Linda Stephens Howarth of Dahlonega; daughter Jennifer Lynn Stephens of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Anthony Stephens and Christina Michelle Stephens of Fayetteville, GA; granddaughters, Heather Leigh Howarth of New York, NY; Abigail Joan Stephens, Rebekah Ann Stephens and Mary Bernadette Stephens all of Fayetteville; sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Dan Turpin of Martin, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Cheryl Chasteen of Athens, GA; brother, Doug Chasteen of Gainesville, GA ; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Debbie Chasteen of Athens, GA; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Runnels, Shirley Smith, Sylvia Barber and Sue Ward; special friends, Bill and Lavon Venable and a host of friends and family also survive.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Jefferson 246 Washington Street Jefferson, GA 30549.
