Mr. Phillip Allen Payne, age 70 of Flowery Branch, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2016 at his residence following an extended illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Matt Baker will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 12, 2016 from 6 - 8 pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Payne was born December 6, 1945 in Gainesville, Georgia to the late Clarence Alvin Payne and Ruth Elizabeth Smith Payne. He played football with South Hall Knights for 4 years and served as Captain his senior year. Phillip graduated from South Hall High School, Class of 1964. He served 4 years with the U. S. Navy during Viet Nam War and was employed with Pepsi for 19 years. Phillip later retired from Hall County Government. He was an active member of Redeemer Fellowship Church.
Mr. Payne is survived by his wife, Mary Blessing Payne of Flowery Branch, his children, Ted Denney & spouse, Mindy Bell of Slough, England and Beth Denney of Flowery Branch, granddaughters, Chelsey Denney and Morgan Bell-Denney, grandson, Cyrus Bell Denney, brother & sister-in-law, Larry Alvin & Jody Payne of Demorest and sister & brother-in-law, Linda & James W. Little of Oakwood.
