Reverend Hugh Howell Walden, age 76 of Gainesville, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Halcyon House following an extended illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Johnny Knight, Reverend Dwayne Smith, Sr. and Reverend Darryl Walden will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 from 4 - 6 pm and 7 - 9 pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Walden was born April 17, 1939 in Gainesville, Georgia to the late Thomas “Tom” Walden and Hattie Clark Walden. He was retired as the Owner/Operator of Brookton Catfish School and was a member of Pond Fork Baptist Church. Our father was beloved by many. As an evangelist and pastor, he touched so many lives through his generosity and compassion to reach the lost and his desire to see souls saved. He loved his family immensely and enjoyed making people smile. He was a self-made man, most notably known for opening Brookton Catfish School. Hugh was preceded in death by his parents and a number of his brothers and sisters, Thomas Walden, Spencer Walden, Harold Walden, Louis Walden, Louise Pierce, Sarah Rogers, Hattie Walden and Annie Bell Motes.
Mr. Walden is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bobbie Martin Walden of Gainesville, his children, Sheila & Nelson Grassie of Charlotte, North Carolina, Lisa & Demarko Kemp of Buford, Charles Loggins of Gainesville and Reverend Darryl & Debbie Walden of Gainesville, grandchildren, Danny Farist, Josh Farist, David Farist, Mikala Kemp, Amanda Hand, Kaylin Walden, Matthew Loggins and Pamela Morris, 4 great-grandchildren, brother & sister-in-law, L. B. & Mildred Walden of Lula and sister, Loraine Savage of Clermont.
