Mr. Leon Walters, age 74, of Antioch Church Road, Mt. Airy, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
A son of the late Hoyt D. and Sue Burnette Walters, he was born on January 26, 1942 in Stephens County, Ga. and lived for most of his life in Habersham County, Ga. Mr. Walters was a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Army and later retired from The Toccoa-Lavonia Georgia National Guard. He was a member and one of the original founders of the Georgia National Guard Retirees, was retired from Coats and Clark after forty-three years of service, and was a member at Mt. Bethel Church of God.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia McEntyre Walters of the home, daughter and son-in-law, Sonya and David Fugera of Mt. Airy, Ga., three grandchildren, Hope Brown, Allison Fugera, and Bradley Fugera, two brothers-in-law and spouses, Floyd Jr. and Sarah McEntyre of Mt. Airy, Ga. and Robert and Betty McEntyre of Toccoa, Ga., and a sister-in-law, Doris Stroud of Mt. Airy, Ga.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 8, 2016, 2:00 P.M., at the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend John Thomas and The Reverend Roger Elrod officiating.
The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers and will please assemble at the funeral home by 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Tim McEntyre, Eddie Stroud, Shane McEntyre, Johnny Bush, Roger Bush, and Jerry Garrett.
The family will be at the home of Mrs. Doris Stroud, 741 Joe Smith Road, Mt. Airy, Ga., and will receive friends at The Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Sunday, February 7, 2016 from 6 until 8 P.M.
