James H. Lawrence

Mr. James Harley Lawrence, 87, of Gainesville passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2016.

 

Born on June 5, 1928 in Baldwin, GA, he was the son of the late William Emory and Minnie Lawrence. He was a Veteran of the US Navy serving with the rank of 1st Class Seaman. He retired with 40 years’ service from Southern Bell.  He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. 

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Monteen West Lawrence; daughter Sandy Lane Hoffman; sister and brother-in-law, Christell and William Meeks; brother, Buford Smith, and sister Florene Lawrence. 

 

Mr. Lawrence is survived by his daughter and fiancée Sundi Lawrence and Jeff Lovell; son-in-law Chris P. Hoffman, Sr.; grandchildren, Autumn and Chad Savage, Summer and Christopher Hoffman, Samantha Hoffman, Meagan Lovell, Kayla & Brandon Leverette; great-grandchild, Chance Savage, and a host of nieces and nephews. 

 

He was a loving father and grandfather; a man of great love, conversation, and wisdom.  He will be truly missed. 

 

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Little Davenport Funeral Home.  The family will meet Friday, February 5, 2016 at 1:00 p. m. at Little & Davenport Funeral Home, leaving at 2:00 for Interment at Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.  Rev. David Matthews will officiate.
