Mr. George P. Russell, age 89, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2016.
Celebration of Life service is scheduled for 4:00 pm Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Gainesville First United Methodist Church. Reverend Bill Harris and Reverend Kathy Lamon will officiate. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 pm Saturday one hour prior to the service at the Church. Inurnment will be at Gainesville First United Methodist Church Columbarium.
Mr. Russell was born January 19, 1927 in Tampa, Florida, the son of the late Luther Russell and Flora Power Russell. He graduated from Boys High School in Atlanta. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and graduated from the Atlanta Law School He spent the better part of 65 years in the Atlanta and Conyers area, He has been in the Gainesville the past 3 years. He retired from Horace Mann Educators Insurance Co. George was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Martha Jo (Forester) Russell of Gainesville; sons, George Russell, Jr. of Canton; Randy Russell of Morrow; and Scott Russell of Atlanta; daughters, Laura White of Johns Creek; Cheryl Harper of Atlanta; and Judy Montgomery of Villa Rica; He is also survived by a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donation be made to the American Diabetes Association 225 Peachtree Street NE Suite 550 Atlanta, Georgia 30303.
