Betty Jo Schuder

Obituary Date: Tuesday, January 26, 2016

Betty Jo Schuder passed away peacefully January 25, 2016 at Landmark Hospital in Athens, Georgia. She was a loving and wonderful mother, wife, and friend to many. She was born March 13, 1927 in Williamson, Pike County, Georgia to Wallace Gregg Williams and Pearl Steger Williams.  She moved to Gainesville in 1954 with her late husband, Raymond Francis Schuder, a practicing attorney. After family and church her love and passion was volunteering for Children's Medical Services in Hall County. Her involvement began in 1960 when the State of Georgia approached the Gainesville Elks Auxiliary, of which she was President, about staffing a clinic in Gainesville. The project was a success and touched the lives of many children across north Georgia. Her involvement as a volunteer continued for 52 years, and she was able to see some of the children the project helped grow up and have families of their own.

She also served on the board of directors of the Gainesville Salvation Army and Armour Street Girls Club for a number of years.

Betty was a member of the Gainesville First United Methodist Church which she attended faithfully since 1954. After her husband Ray died in 2007, it became a second family for her.
She is survived by her 2 children, Gregg Williams Schuder of Alpharetta, Georgia, and her daughter, Glenarva Schuder Ryan (Matt Ryan) of Tallahassee, Florida, and two grandchildren, Sarah Schuder Wargon (David Wargon) and Bryan Roberts Schuder. She was also close to her extended family in Pike County, Georgia, especially nieces Dianne English Smith and Dale English Bowen both of Williamson, Georgia.

Services will be held this Friday, January 29, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Gainesville First United Methodist Church, 2780 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Salvation Army of Gainesville, 711 Dorsey Street SW, Gainesville, Georgia 30501 or Gainesville First United Methodist Church, 2780 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville, Georgia 30501.
