Alice Ruth Harrison Puckett, 87, of Gainesville, GA, died on Thursday, January 21, 2016, after an extended illness.
Ruth Puckett was born July 3, 1928 in Helen, GA to the late Ella Shewbert Harrison and the late Loy Cason Harrison. She met her husband John Gilbert Puckett when he was posted at the Naval base in Gainesville at the end of WW II. They were married at First Baptist Church of Gainesville on March 6, 1946. After 61 years of marriage, Gilbert preceded Ruth in death in 2007. Ruth was a homemaker and raised two daughters, living in Pine Bluff, AR, Atlanta, GS Miami, FL and finally returning to Gainesville, GA.
Ruth's survivors include her daughters, Vickie Lynn Puckett Durham and Madonna Sue Puckett Zapf; son-in-law, John Steven Zapf, all of Gainesville; grandchildren, Curtis Wayne Durham Jr. and Nicole Smolin Durham of Littleton, CO, Michael Wade Durham and Nicole Benda of Gainesville, FL, Melody Lynn Durham Miller and James David Miller of Brookline, N.H. and Alice Rose Zapf Anderson and Eric Anthony Anderson of Greenville, S.C.; and great-grandchildren Dagny Michaela Durham and Charles Wyatt Durham of Littleton, CO., Lincoln Wade Durham and Griffin Wylie Durham of Gainesville, FL, Savannah Faith Miller and Reece James Miller of Brookline, N.H.. Survivors also include four sisters, Viola Peppers of Lexington, SC, Shirley Long, Barbara Polsfus and Betty Childs all of Gainesville, GA.; brother-in law, Doug Childs of Gainesville, GA, brother-in-law, Dennis Puckett and sister-in-law, Geraldine Puckett of Springdale, AR and numerous loving family members and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her three brothers, Alvin Harrison, L.C. Harrison and J. N. Harrison; and by her three sisters, Vera Adams Starnes, Mildred Harrison and Mary Dyer, all of Gainesville, GA.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home North Riverside on Wednesday January 27, 2016 at 11 AM. Rev. Henry Loggins will officiate, interment will follow at South Bend Methodist Church. The family will receive friends and family at Memorial Park Funeral Home North Riverside on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, between 5PM and 8PM.
