Louise Walls Humphries

Obituary Date: Monday, January 18, 2016

Mrs. Louise Walls Humphries, age 98 of New Holland, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016 at Autumn Breeze Assisted Living Home following an extended illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Reverend Doug Tritt and Reverend Ralph Smith will officiate.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 12:00 noon - 2:00 pm, prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Humphries was born October 2, 1917, in Winder, Georgia to the late Ernest Goss Walls and Annie Mae Elder Walls.  She was retired from New Holland Textile Mill, and loved to tell the story of being there during the 1936 Tornado.  Louise was a member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church.  Having no children of her own, Louise loved all the children she came in contact with at church and families in the neighborhood, often telling acquaintances that she had more children than anyone around.  She made her own clothes and was famous in her family for her peanut butter cakes.  Louise was a precious, loving soul and well into her 90’s, she would send all of her family birthday cards every year.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Wesley Humphries, her nephews, Jerry Clark and Jerry Walls, and her great-nephew, Kit Clark.  The last three years of her life, she spent at Autumn Breeze.  Louise made many friends and her family will be forever grateful for the love and care she received there.

Mrs. Humphries is survived by her “adopted” son & his wife, Ronald & Jena Wilson of Gainesville, nephew & his wife, George Mack & Mary Grace Walls of Gainesville, nieces, Kay Walls Clark and Barbara Walls, both of Gainesville, “adopted” grandchildren, John David Wilson and Maria Louise Wilson, great nieces, Gigi Walls Clayton, Kim Walls Powell, Amy Walls Crain, Amanda Walls, Trinity Senter and Leslie Bailey and a number of great-great-nieces & nephews.
