Michael George Formon, Sr. passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the age of 72. Michael was born and raised in Stratford and Bridgeport Connecticut and graduated from Notre Dame Catholic High School. He attended the University of Connecticut and served honorably in the United States Navy.
He was one of three children born to the late Michael and Anna Formon and was the beloved husband of Donna Formon, having celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. Mike was preceded in death by his brothers John (Sandy) and Matt (Helen), mother and father in-law, Leon and Stella, and his Sister-in-Law Judy. He will be forever missed by his beloved children Julie (James) Price, Michael Formon, Jr., Michelle (Al) Wickman, treasured grandchildren Donna Kaye, Melinda, Velera, CJ, Cecilia, Julia, Sara Michelle, Albert, Nicole, Alex, Grace and George, great grandson Albert, caring in-laws Sarah (Kenny) Johnson, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him.
A devout Roman Catholic, he was actively involved in many parishes in Connecticut, Michigan and Georgia. He and his wife headed the Engaged Couple Ministry at St. Edwards, St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Brendan the Navigator. He was a Lector, Eucharistic Minister and inspired his daughter and granddaughters to become Eucharistic Ministers as well. An avid sports fan, he loved The NY Yankees, Atlanta Braves, University of Georgia and Notre Dame football. But he loved his family best and enjoyed watching them compete in gymnastics, coach basketball, baseball and other sports. He worked as an electrical engineer for General Electric Company and retired from Siemens here in Atlanta in 2013.
Michael touched the lives of so many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral mass on Saturday, January 16, 2016, at 11am at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church, 4633 Shiloh Road Cumming, GA 30040. Burial with Military Honors will be on Monday, January 18, 2016 at 10am at Georgia National Cemetery 2025 Mount Carmel Church Ln, Canton, GA 30114.
