Edith Virginia (Ginny) Flockhart Trieb, age 88, died peacefully on January 7, 2016 at Lanier Village Estates, Gainesville Georgia, surrounded by her family. She had been independent, active, enjoying her Lanier Village family of friends as recently as New Year’s Eve. She had enjoyed a busy Christmas with her children and grandchildren. She suffered a stroke suddenly on Jan 2nd. Through the assistance of NEG Hospice, the care of the staff at Willowbrook (LVE), and above all the grace of God, her family were able to care for her until Jan 7th at 3:20 pm.
Born to James and Edith (Morrison) Flockhart of Newark, New Jersey, August 7th, 1927, Ginny was raised with brother, Bo in a city apartment building. Ginny completed nursing school at St. Barnabas School of nursing in Newark, NJ. She surprised her parents and joined the US Army corps of nurses.
Stationed at Camp Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado, she became a 1st Lieutenant. There in the Officer’s Club, Ginny met her future husband, Sykes Emil (Si) Trieb. After a two week courtship, they were married on Jan 3rd, 1952.
The Korean War ended. Si and Ginny moved to Paola, Kansas to farm. Ginny soon became a busy farmer’s wife. In 1956, after a lengthy drought, they left the farm for Manhattan, Kansas. A move to Columbus, Ohio followed, as Si received his doctorate. During this time Ginny raised 3 children, managed busy family life, and worked part time at the hospital.
Si’s career moved the family to Athens, Georgia, where they made their home for 35 years. They were happily married for 54 years, until his passing in 2006.
Ginny was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. An active member of First Presbyterian Church in Athens, she had enjoyed volunteering in numerous ways. Among her interests were serving as a board member and volunteer at the Athens Area Food Bank, Green Acres Garden Club and many hours of labor for the Clarke County Republicans.
Words to describe Ginny would include, vivacious, hardworking, kind and generous. She enjoyed traveling, home decorating, socializing and visiting with friends and relatives. Ginny enjoyed welcoming friends, work associates and family into their home, with wonderful food and conversation. She loved board games, coffee and dessert and long talks at the dining room table. She was a quick and capable person, an amazing time manager.
Above all, she loved being with her family, enjoying countless good times together. She had a quiet deep faith in the Lord. Her family wishes to thank her dear friends at Lanier Village. They made her 10 years at LVE memorable and delightful.
Ginny is survived by her three children: Jeff (Dorothy) Trieb, Ellen (Greg) Wren, and Jim Trieb; seven grandchildren: Jenny Wren, Annie Wren (fiancé David Stanley), Jaclyn (Sam) Luthi, Sandra Trieb, Michael Trieb, Becca Wren, and Joey (Valerie) Trieb; and one great-granddaughter, Evelyn Luthi.
