Peggy Purser Montford, 85, of Cumming, GA died peacefully at Embracing Hospice House on January 10, 2016. She was born in Lumber City GA, the daughter of the late Henry Ray and Vashti Purser. Her beloved husband, William B. Montford and son, Timothy Montford predeceased her.
Peggy grew up in Wheeler County, GA, where she graduated from high school and Brewton-Parker College.
In 1949, she married Bill Montford and moved to Macon, Ga. where they lived for over 30 years. In addition to raising four children, Peggy owned and managed a frame shop. They were active members of the Highland Hills Baptist church.
Bill and Peggy retired and moved to the Georgia coast in 1989. They lived in the Sutherland Bluff community where they enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening and the company of neighbors and church family. There they were active members of the Shellman Bluff Baptist Church. They were happily married for 46 years.
Peggy was a loving mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Montford (Scott Smith) of Cumming, GA and Suzanne (Wade) Stubbs of Fayetteville, GA; son, Victor (Lucy) Montford of Gray, GA; daughter-in-law, Brenda Montford of Fayetteville, GA; much-loved grandchildren, Nicholas (Crystal) Stubbs, Megan Stubbs, Ashley Montford, Tori (Stephen) McKissick, Clay Montford and Brooke Montford; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 12:00 pm at the Shiloh United Methodist Church near Lumber City, GA. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 13 from 11:00 am until service time.
