Mrs. Joan Smith Hudson age 84 of Julia Lane, Toccoa passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the residence.
A daughter of the late Felton Alan and Callie Adams Smith, she was born on April 24, 1931 in Stephens County, Georgia where she lived for the majority of her life. She was a member of The Grove Church in Maysville, Georgia and was a homemaker for many years. She went back to school to become a cosmetologist and soon thereafter became the owner/operator of the Stylistic Beauty Salon in Toccoa. She played the piano for a number of churches and was the pianist at The Grove Church for the Senior Adult Class. Family was very important to her and always came first. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Hudson was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Donald Hudson in 2013, a son Michael Hudson, three brothers, Milton Smith, Buddy Smith, and Herby Terrell Smith, four sisters, Bernice Smith Adams, Carldean Reed Andrews, Marie Smith Caudell, and Eloise Smith Payne, and by a great-grandson Joab Hudson.
Survivors include a daughter Brenda and Phil Batson of Westminster, South Carolina, a son Rick and Jennifer Hudson of Hoschton, Georgia, daughter Wanda and Rev. Steve Vickery of LaGrange, Georgia, and daughter Elaine and Randall Turpin of Martin, Georgia, a brother, Jimmy Smith of Gainesville, Georgia, daughter-in-law, Fran Powers Hudson of Toccoa, fifteen grandchildren, Michael L. Hudson, Chad W. Hudson, Candice H.Hilton, Cari H.Fielding, Leia B. Alexander, Keith Batson, Jill B. Ogg, Cheryl B.VanderWiele, Chris D. Hudson, Matt R. Hudson, Amanda H. Noffsinger, Andrea V. Malone, Micah L. Vickery, Chase R. Turpin, and Allison Turpin. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, 2:00 P.M, at The Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Reverend Micah Vickery and the Reverend Steve Vickery officiating. Burial will follow in Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Tim Hilton officiating over the graveside committal. The family will be at the home on Julia Lane, Toccoa, and will receive friends at Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M.
The following grandsons will serve as pallbearers: Michael Hudson, Chad Hudson, Keith Batson, Chris Hudson, Matt Hudson, and Chase Turpin.
