William Daniel (Bill) Strickland, loving husband, father and grandfather, born September 14, 1929 to Daniel and Inez Strickland, passed away January 7th with his family by his side at NE GA Medical Center after a two week bout with Pneumonia. He worked most of his working life with the City of Gainesville for 39 years as the superintendent of Water Pollution Control. He retired in 1994. Mr. Strickland was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church, and a former member of Westside Baptist Church since 1953.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Opal Grogan Strickland and children, Sons, Michael Strickland (Stephanie), Mark Strickland, and daughter Deborah Shumake (Keith), granddaughter Casey Shumake Goff (Lex), grandsons Matthew Shumake (Whitney), Andrew Strickland (Katie), Max Strickland and 4 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by twin brother Cliff Strickland (Betty), many nieces and nephews, Lisa Ralston, Chuck Walls and Karen Batson, Dwayne Lowman, Russell Lowman and Dr. Steven Lowman, Tina Drake, Sherry Drake, Michelle Hayes, brothers and sisters-in-law Grady and Evelyn Walls, Jim and Patricia Logsdon, and Selma Lowman.
He was preceded in death by his parent and sisters, Marge Bennett, Kathrine Haynes and Cora Bruce, and nephews Rick Bruce and Randy Bruce. Also by special family friends Michelle Collier and Sarah Gooch. Many thanks to the Northeast Georgia Cardiac Care Unit and a special thanks to Kelly Wheeles, cardiac care nurse.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Hillside Chapel Funeral Home. Services will be held on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of the Funeral Home, with Interment to follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Flat Creek Baptist Church.
