Mr. Charles Laymond Poole, 85, of Gainesville passed away at Northeast Georgia Medical Center on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 following an extended illness.
Born on May 14, 1930 in Lula, GA, he was the son of the late Oliver Curtis and Gertrude Poole. He was a million mile plus commercial truck driver/owner. He also assisted the Hall County Sheriff’s Office as an accident reconstruction expert witness. He was a Veteran of the US Army serving with the rank of PFC. He was an avid supporter of the Georgia Sheriff’s Association. He retired from Ferrell Gas where he was a truck driver and a trainer.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Cecil Poole and sister, Gladys Butler.
Mr. Poole is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Ledford Poole; 6 daughters, Shelley (Dean) Martin, Sheryl Rylee, Sonya (Lowery) Tillison, Susan (Jamey) Brown, Sherri Holcombe, Stephanie Gilbert; grandchildren, Justin Martin, Shane (Marybeth) Martin, Ally Martin, Erika Rylee, Kyle Rylee, Natasha (Mike) Gebora, Michael Underwood, Jason (Heather) Holcombe, Hannah (Bryan) Brannon; great grandchildren, Luke, Kennedy, Bailey, Connor, Landon, Aubrey, Amelia; brother, Joel Poole; sisters, Jean Martin, Elaine Hulsey, sister in law, Bessie Poole; brother in law, Glenn (Doris) Ledford; sister in law, Charlene Barrett as well as a host of beloved relatives and friends.
His love was spending time with his family at home and in the mountains of Maggie Valley N.C. He was an avid fisherman, a fan of NASCAR and of PGA Golf.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016 in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Rev. Ruel Martin and Rev. Gregg Poole will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, January 8, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. until the service hour.
