Roger L. Stephens, 76, of Dawsonville passed away Thursday December 17, 2015 at his residence following an extended illness.
Born March 11, 1939 to the late Clyde and Madge Cox Stephens, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Mr. Stephens was employed 28 years by Universal Rubber Company after which he was employed by American Belt Corporation until his retirement. Roger was an avid pet lover, especially his dogs. He was very dedicated to his family, especially his grandchildren. A member of Bethel United Methodist Church, he loved and attended camp meeting at Lumpkin Campground his entire life. Roger was also preceded in death by a son, Christopher Burt “Chris” Stephens, and a brother, Don Stephens.
Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Marjorie Stephens, Dawsonville; children, Lanier Stephens, Dawsonville, Sharon and Randy Allen, Gainesville, Katrina and Keith Holbrook, Dawsonville, Mellony and Cliff Peck, Cumming; sister in law, Edna Stephens, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Brandi and Chris Thornhill, Amy Stephens and Jereme Davis, Sam Allen, Charlie Allen, Kasay Holbrook, Kaleb Holbrook, Meshelle and Jamie Martin, Melissa and Matthew White; ten great grandchildren and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Sunday December 20, 2015 at 4 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Eddie Herring, Rev. Ruel Martin and Rev. Gary Moore will officiate. Interment will follow in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 4 until 8 at the funeral home.
