Frances (Fran) McConnell Amend, 85, of Gainesville, GA passed away on December 16, 2015 after an extended illness following a stroke and hip fracture.
Frances was born in Walterboro, SC to Robert Lee and Bessie I. McConnell. She grew up and attended school there. She worked at Carolina Life Insurance Company. She moved to Gainesville, GA in 1959 where she was a homemaker for many years, participated in the Jr. Service League, was a Girl Scout leader and was active in community groups. She went back to work for Harrell Farms and The Chamber of Commerce before going into real estate with The Norton Agency. Real estate was a great pleasure to her, from all the people she met through transactions to co-workers.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert Lee, Jr., sister Mary Louise, and husband Floyd who had retired from Lockheed. She is survived by her daughter, Anne Vandervort, and her granddaughter Aleisha Vandervort. She has nieces Gail Truluck, Mary Frances, and Sharon McConnell, nephew Erik Fender, all in Charleston, SC and Cathy Babbitt in Virginia. She has two close grand-nephews Douglas Truluck (Chris and daughters) and Brad Truluck (Jodi and daughters). She also has a number of grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to many caregivers through the years. Special appreciation goes to Ann Greer and Gina and David Carlton for their continued support and assistance since 2010.
A memorial service will be held at The First Presbyterian Church on February 13th, 2016 at 11:00AM.
