Mrs. Vernie Turk departed this life to abide with her Lord and Savior on Sunday December 13, 2015. She passed away from an extended illness in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family and special friends. She was 91 years old.
Vernie married her lifelong sweetheart J.C. Turk, a World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient. They lived hand-in-hand for 70 years. She was the only child of the late Hubert and Pearl Little Shewbert. Vernie was preceded in death by her husband, J.C., parents, and only son, Jackie Turk, and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Faye Reed Turk and John Turk, Sr. and sister in law, Mary Lou Turk.
She will be remembered as a selfless wife and mother who always had a smile, even when times were tough. She had a quite strength. She never complained and always looked to a batter future. She always had a gentle hug and tender kiss for all that walked through her door, she was always kind, supportive and encouraging. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7.
Survivors include her sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-laws, Blanche Martin, Flowery Branch; Virginia Looper, Buford; Henry Howard Turk, Cleveland; John, Jr. and Annette Turk, Gainesville; Dorothy and Bobby Wilburn, Flowery Branch; Betty Beck, Gainesville; special cousins, Larry Westmoreland and Lamar and Carol Westmoreland, all of Flowery Branch; special neighbors, Randall and Deborah Kidd, Flowery Branch; and many more blessed relationships with a host if nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and neighbors. A special thank you to Vernie's caregivers, Virginia Looper, Bobby Wilburn and Terry Wilburn.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday December 16, 2015 in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Roger Allen and Rev. Wayne Turk will officiate. Interment will follow in the Alta Vista Cemetery with Rev. Ricky Thrasher officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday December 15, 2015 from 6-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, 2150 Limestone Parkway Suite 115, Gainesville, Ga. 30501.
