Loy S. Chumley, 94, of Marble Hill passed away Friday December 11, 2015 at his residence following a short illness.
Born March 30, 1921 in Dawson County to the late John Henry and Martha Chumley, he lived most of his life in Pickens County. Mr. Chumley retired from Georgia Marble after 28 years of service after which he was employed by Big Canoe for 20 years. An extremely proud American, Loy was a U. S. Army veteran of WW II where he served in the European Theater. He was a 60 year member of Marble Hill Lodge # 207 F & AM and a member of Juno Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Lois Swafford Chumley; sisters, Infant Ruby Chumley, Grace West; and brothers, Herbert Chumley, Elbert Chumley and Toy Chumley.
Surviving are his children, Glenda Black, Marble Hill, Randy and Barbara Chumley, Marble Hill, Linda Bearden, Dawsonville, Tracy and Rhonda Chumley, Dawsonville, Greg Chumley, Marble Hill; sisters, Minnie Wigington, Dawsonville, Eddie Goswick, Dawsonville; brother, John Carson Chumley, Stockbridge; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Sunday December 13, 2015 at 2 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Phillip Burt will officiate. Interment will follow in the Juno Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 4 until 8 at the funeral home.
