Floyd Jack Canup, age 70 of Clarkesville, passed away Monday, December 7, 2015.
Born in Habersham County on June 28, 1945, he was a son of the late Floyd Junior and Hortense Nix Canup. Mr. Canup was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and was formerly employed by Lee Arrendale State Prison. He was also a member of the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15 and the VFW Post # 7720. Mr. Canup retired from the United States Army Georgia National Guard having served in the 1st Infantry Division in the Big Red One during Vietnam.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Dan Canup.
Surviving are wife of 49 year, Nyoka Hill Canup of Clarkesville; sons, Floyd Kenneth Canup and fiancée, Brenda Russell of Cornelia and Ryan Keith Canup of Clarkesville; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Terry Bond of Marietta; grandson, Shawn Bond of Clarkesville; step grandchildren, William Bond of Tulsa, Oklahoma, James Bond of Marietta and Erika Fitzpatrick of Coeur D’Alene, Idaho; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Gwen Canup of Alto; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Woodrow Free of Clarkesville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gerald and Erna Harden of Albuquerque, New Mexico; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services are 2 pm Saturday, December 12, 2015, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Dr. Kenneth Franklin officiating. Inurnment will follow in VFW Memorial Park with full military honors provided by the Grant Reeves VFW Post # 7720, Habersham County American Legion Post # 84, Rabun County DAV Chapter # 15, and the Georgia National Guard.
The family will receive friends from 1 pm until the service hour on Saturday at the funeral home.
