Verner Howard Martin, 93, born in Commerce Ga. and
longtime resident of Atlanta and Dahlonega Ga. passed
away Nov. 25, 2015, after a short illness.
He was the son of the late Mr. O.T. and Loreena Martin, of
Citronelle Alabama. He is survived by his three children
Patricia Higgins (husband Jim Higgins), David Martin (wife
Suzanne Martin) and Dean Martin (wife Tammy Martin)
and 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his wife Ann Callaway Martin and his
oldest son, Howard Martin (wife Beth Martin). He is also
survived by his brother Bobby Martin and Bobby’s wife
Jeanette, of Citronelle Alabama

As a teenage student at Atlanta’s Tech High School, he
enlisted in the U.S. Navy the day after Pearl Harbor.
Throughout the war he saw action in both the Pacific and
Atlantic Theater of operations as a signalman aboard the
USS Loyd E. Acree DE356. Upon returning from the war,
he graduated from Georgia Tech and started Martin
Containers which supplied corrugated boxes all over the
southeast. Later in life he built homes in the Atlanta area,
often in the Colonial Williamsburg style. He also became a
pilot and mined for gold in Mexico and Dahlonega Ga.
