George Thomas (Tom) Cornett, Jr. of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the age of 84.
He was born in Atlanta, Georgia to the late George Thomas Cornett, Sr. and Mildred Betts Cornett. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Dianne Cornett and his sister, Betty Cornett Hagan.
Tom graduated from Hapeville High School. He received a BBA degree from the University of Georgia in 1956. Tom has lived in Gainesville since 1971. He served in the United States Air Force.
He has owned and served as CEO of GTO 2000, a local transportation company that he started in 1975. His previous business ventures included serving as general manager and executive officer of Tyson Foods and Clayton Brokerage where he managed stocks and commodities. Early in his career he was employed at Gainesville Fryer.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Sarah B. Cornett; children, Cynthia (Gray) Oliver, Heather (Dale) Graves, Kaela (Doug, Jr.) Smith, George Thomas III (Nairika) Cornett, Patrick Palmour Cornett, Gregg Gordon, all of Gainesviile, Blair Gordon of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Nelson Palmour Oliver, Connor Betts Oliver, James Trenor Oliver, Keysin Anne Cornett, Brittany Dianne Graves, Kristine Alexis Graves, , Adrianne Marguerite Smith, Emerson Quincy Smith, Farran Marie Smith, Kamyaab Kotwal Cornett, Shayaan Kotwal Cornett, Jordan, Madeline, Marianne Cornett, Wesley Scott Gordon and Ashley Blair Gordon. one great-granddaughter, Audrey Marie Martinez; his brother, Julian Cornett of Nashville, Tennessee and the mother of his children, Patti Palmour Cornett of Gainesville, Georgia.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, November 30, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Grace Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall following the service.
