George Randolph McEntire, age 82 of Cornelia went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 23, 2015 at his residence following an extended illness.
Born in the Habersham Mills Community on July 09, 1933, he was a son of the late Norris Edward, Sr. & Connice Fry McEntire. George served his country proudly in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Catamount from 1952 until 1956, retiring years later from the United States Army Reserves. He worked for many years with the Lee Arrendale State Prison before retiring in 1997. He served as a Ward 2 Commissioner for the City of Cornelia for over 11 years, often dedicating many hours to help with gathering supplies for the City’s Volunteer Force. In later years, George worked for the Eddy West Furniture Company, delivering pieces all across the United States. He enjoyed woodworking, building many furniture pieces for family and friends. George was a life-member of the Grant Reeves VFW Post # 7720, where he served as Post Commander for two years, life-member of the COOTIES, the American Legion Post # 84, Cornelia Masonic Lodge # 92 F & AM, and was of the Baptist Faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Randolph McEntire, brothers, Harold, Walter Jay, & Ed McEntire, Jr.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Ruth Underwood McEntire of Cornelia; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry & Cindy Pervis McEntire of Alpharetta; granddaughters and spouses, Amanda & David McCormick of Marietta; Anna McEntire & Cody Balis of Woodstock; great-grandchildren, Charlotte & Michelle McCormick of Marietta; Lonnie James Balis of Woodstock; brothers & sisters-in-law, Charles & Barbara McEntire of Clarkesville, Gary & Linda McEntire of Demorest, Larry & Nancy McEntire of Panama City, FL; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, & friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2015 from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with the Rev. Kenneth McEntire and the Rev. Farrell Presley officiating. Interment will follow in the Habersham Cemetery in Demorest with full military honors provided.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 until 4 p.m. and 7 until 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
