Janet McKenzie, age 76, of Cumming, GA passed away on November 19 of complications from a valiant 16-year battle with Multiple Myeloma. Janet was born May 23, 1939 to Earl Sr. and Bertha Stephens of Olive Hill, KY, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Earnest Jack Stephens, Earl Stephens Jr. and Bobby Gene Stephens; and her sister, Sandra Faye (Stephens) Applegate.
Janet married her high school sweetheart, Francis M. McKenzie. She received
her Bachelor degree from Morehead State University; her Master’s in Education
degree from University of Dayton; and her EDD Doctors of Education from
University of Cincinnati. Janet was a dedicated educator and professor and
retired as Director of Development, South Suburban College. In retirement, Janet enjoyed traveling around the world with Francis and friends, knitting, her involvement at church and civic organizations and most of all, time with her family and grandchildren.
Janet is survived by her husband, Francis McKenzie; son, Steve McKenzie and
his wife Jill; grandchildren Molly (Jim) Stoddart, Carter McKenzie and Mimi
McKenzie. Other survivors include sister Betty Joan Mathews.
The Memorial Service will be Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015 at 3:00pm at Cumming First United Methodist Church, 770 Canton Highway, Cumming GA 30040. Friends are invited to visit with the family at a reception following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cumming First United Methodist Church Youth Missions or Food Pantry, P.O. Box 606, Cumming, GA 30028.
