Jack Douglas Alexander

Jack Douglas Alexander was born on January 7, 1944 in Thomasville, Georgia to Ellis and Bessie Alexander.  He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters Elizabeth, Margie, Barbara, Pat and brothers Talmadge and Allen. 

Jack is survived by his wife of 46 years Ann McConnell Alexander of Lake Burton and son Matthew D. Alexander and granddaughters, Sophia Marie and Lucia Ann Alexander of Cornelia. 

While serving in the Air Force he met his future wife Ann MCConnell. Together they returned to Lake Burton where they served as co-directors of Camp Cherokee for Boys and later Camp Cherokee for Girls. Through the 1980's and early 1990's he was a builder on Lake Burton.  In 1993 he open Burton Gallery and Emporium where he was able to share his love of art with others.  He was an avid collector of fine art, folk pottery and antique fishing lures and tackle. Jack was a gifted artist in his own right, he carved walking sticks, decoys, and fish.  He also made many pieces of furniture.  His carvings are in the Atlanta History Center and the state capital. He was happiest in the woods and on the water having hunted and fished all of his life. Sharing the joy of the outdoors with children and teaching them how to carve, fish or just walk in the woods was a lifelong pursuit. He and Ann traveled extensively often with a group of friends whom they have known for over forty years. He was a member of Faith Lutheran church in Cleveland, Georgia.
