Ivan “Cowboy” Bennett, 87, of Dawsonville passed away Friday October 23, 2015 following a period of declining health.
Mr. Bennett was born May 26, 1928 and had been a resident of Dawsonville for over 40 years coming from Forsyth County. A minister who believed and lived by the Bible, he loved everyone. He was a carpenter by trade and well known for the good quality of his work. Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his parents, George and Desi Bennett; children, David Bennett, Donna Bennett; four brothers; two sisters; grandson, Donald Metcalf Jr..
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy “Dot” Bennett, Dawsonville; son and daughter in law, Bill and Donna Bennett, Dawsonville; daughters and sons in law, Jean and Hoppy Cook, Dawsonville, Margaret and Bob Teague, Ellijay, Martha “Runt” and Lloyd Flynn, Dawsonville; Gloria and Steve Terry, Cumming, Cathy and Floyd West, Chatsworth; brother, Charles Bennett, Cumming; sisters, Willie Mae Buice, Dahlonega, Jeanette Walker, Maysville; a great number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday October 28, 2015 at 1 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Barry Payne will officiate. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11AM until 8PM on Tuesday and from 9AM until the service hour on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to help offset final expenses.
