Dr. Joseph (Joe) Anthony Tiller, age 65, of Commerce, GA died Saturday, October 24, 2015.
Joe was born in Washington, D.C., on January 30, 1950, son of Bob J. Tiller and Helen Gloria Fowler Tiller, and moved to South Carolina in 1952. Joe grew up in Anderson and was the drummer for The Blades during the 1960s, serving in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1972 and was a proud Vietnam Veteran.
Joe graduated from The University of South Carolina (Columbia) with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology and from The University of Georgia (Athens) with a doctorate in educational psychology. He worked at Whitten Center in Clinton, S.C. and retired as the school psychologist for the Commerce and Jefferson City Schools in Georgia. He was a member and treasurer of the Northeast Georgia Amateur Radio Club and an active member of Commerce First United Methodist Church in Commerce.
Joe is survived by his devoted wife, Theresa (Rese) Pipkin Tiller and two beloved children, Amelia Tiller Williams (and husband Richard Williams) of Charleston, S.C. and Joseph Christopher Tiller (and wife Elisabeth Gamble Tiller) of Senoia, G.A. He delighted in his grandchildren, Thea Elizabeth Williams and Emma Claire Williams of Charleston, and Charlotte Anne Tiller and Joseph Edward (Jed) Tiller of Senoia.
Also surviving is his father Bob J. Tiller, brother Alan Douglas Tiller (and wife Lorna Tiller) and sister Amy Lynn Tiller, all of Wilmington, N.C.
Preceding him in death was his beloved mother, Helen Gloria Fowler Tiller.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, 16 Cherry Street, Commerce, GA (30529) with Dr. David Bowen officiating. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m., in MJ Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, S.C.
The family will receive friends at Little-Ward Funeral Home in Commerce on Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
