Jane Neff Hulsey passed away peacefully on October 23, 2015. She was born in Gadsden, Alabama on January 23, 1926, where she attended elementary and high school. Jane was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Jack Cavender Hulsey, a native of Hall County and former Probate Judge. Jane is survived by her nephews, Thomas A. Marshall of Chicago, Andrew Hulsey Marshall of Athens and David Cavender Marshall of Atlanta. Gary Hayes of Gainesville, Georgia was caregiver to both Jack and Jane for a number of years and was like a member of their family. She graduated from the University of Montevallo in 1947 and moved shortly thereafter to Gainesville. Jane taught physical education at Brenau College and later at Gainesville High School. She became the Director of Physical Education at Brenau in 1955; in 1968, she became Director of Admissions. Additionally, she was the Swimming Director for the Gainesville Recreation Department from 1947 until 1961. It is often said she taught most of Gainesville to swim. After retiring from Brenau, she became Director of the Red Cross for North Georgia for fifteen years, where she directed the local response to many emergencies around the globe. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Gainesville and was an avid and talented golfer.
