Edith Thomas, age 77 of Demorest, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2015.
Born in Habersham County on April 1, 1938, she was a daughter of the late James Monroe Thomas and Katie Adams Thomas. Mrs. Thomas was a U.S. Navy veteran having served her country as a YNSN USN for four years. Afterwards she remained active, attending WAVE National meetings and forming a charter called the Cherokee Rose Unit. She retired in her sixties, after working in prenatal care at several hospitals and also working with local nursing homes. Even though Edith never had children of her own, there are a lot of children that might not be here today if it were not for her love and caring in the nursing field.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by brothers, Andrew, Hughes, Henry and Edwin Thomas; sisters, Mary Lou Thomas Nicholson and Doris Thomas Adams.
Surviving are sisters, Irene Thomas Hall and Annie Mae Thomas both of Demorest; numerous nieces and nephews.
