John was born May 10, 1931 in Bethlehem, Georgia. He was a life long member of Bethel Baptist Church. John worked his entire life on the family farm. John enjoyed listening to southern gospel music (even back to the Chuck Wagon Gang). He especially enjoyed sitting under the pecan trees, visiting with his friends and waving to passersby. John took pride in his yard and would cut grass every week to make sure his home always looked its best. He liked to ride around with family and friends along the country roads near his home. However, John’s greatest joy came from his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theo Carl Dillard and Zella Rutledge Dillard, brothers, Samuel Jackson Dillard and Horace Dillard
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Janet Dillard; nieces and nephews, Susan and Russell Hopkins, David and Patti Dillard, all of Gainesville; great-nieces and nephews, Katie and David Simms of Alpharetta; Addison and Emily Dillard also of Alpharetta; Andrew and Haley Hopkins of Cartersville; Lainey Hopkins of Gainesville; and great-great-nephew, Jackson Wesley Dillard of Alpharetta.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Joy Ministry at Lakewood Baptist Church 2235 Thompson Bridge Road Gainesville, Georgia 30501
