James Edward “Ed” Cates

Obituary Date: Monday, October 5, 2015

   James Edward “Ed” Cates of Auburn, Georgia, loving Son, Brother, Nephew, Cousin and Friend was born July 11, 1958 in Moultrie, Georgia and entered into God’s Kingdom October 5, 2015.  Ed was a member of Auburn First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Music Director and Church Administer.  Ed was a member of The Sons of Jubal, a music ministry of the Georgia Baptist Convention.  He traveled to Russia, China and North Korea to perform the gospel message in song.  Ed was the assistant manager at the Bojangles in Jefferson.  He also served as the manager of the Homeport Farm Mart, Winder, and as a training supervisor at Meyer Electric.  Ed served as the Chief of Staff to The Honorable Terry England.  He enjoyed playing the piano, teaching music, cooking and sharing his faith with others.  A devout Christian, Ed continued to study God’s word and sharing his testimony with others.

   Surviving are Parents, Clara Cates, James “Doc” and Sara Cates, Sister, Charlotte Cates, Aunts and Uncle, Regena Pevy, Gary Lee, Sharon Hortman and Susan Hardin, Sister, Michelle Barnes, Brothers, Curt Malcom and Steve Miller, Numerous Cousins, Brother-in-Christ, Albert Grinneil, Brother and Sister-in-Christ, Terry and Cindy England.

   A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 4:00 P. M. from the Auburn First Baptist Church with Terry England, Lee Sass and Chris Parkin officiating.  In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for contributions to be made to Auburn First Baptist Church, Affinis Hospice or the American Cancer Society.  Carter Funeral Home of Winder is in charge of arrangements where online condolences may be expressed at www.carterfhwinder.com
