Alexander Funeral Home of Cleveland announces the death of Clarence Gurley, age 102 of Sautee. Mr. Gurley passed away Friday, October 2, 2015 at Friendship Healthcare and Rehab following a period of declining health.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 4, from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bryan Watson and Rev Dave Fortner officiating, interment will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Gurley was born in White County on December 9, 1912, to the late Jim & Grace McClure Gurley. He was a farmer; saw miller, and the oldest member of Union Baptist Church. Mr. Gurley was also a member of Yonah Lodge #382 F & AM Masonic Lodge, having the distinction of being the oldest member. He is preceded in death by his wife of 72 yrs, Catherine Adams Gurley, and Brother Dewey Gurley.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Dean Nix, son and daughter-in-law, Grady and Sandy Gurley, Grandchildren, Deanna & Bryan Watson, Lynn & Wanda Nix, Delenna & Kelly Crane. Great grandchildren, Amber, Ansley & Abby Watson, Syndee Nix, Kaleb and Shaylee Crane.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Union Baptist Church, 869 Preacher Campbell Rd, Clarkesville, Ga. 30523 or Shoal Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 142 Shoal Creek Church Rd, Cleveland, Ga. 30528.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday 4 to 8 pm.
