Johnson Wavery “Dub” Brown, of Cumming, GA left his earthly home on October 1, 2015, leaving a family that he cherished. He will be missed deeply.
He leaves his wife of 72 years, Doris; his daughter, Melanie and husband Brad Curtis; his grandchildren, Jessica and Jason Cole, Chris and Marie Brown, Julie and Bret Estep, Ashlee and John Woodruff, Jason and Glynn-Glynn Brown; daughter-in-law, Juanita Brown and husband John Cruz; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two children, Mark and Judith.
Dub was proud to be a native Georgian – born in Atlanta, January 1, 1925, he came to Chamblee as a baby and was raised on his father’s dairy farm. There he remained to raise his own children in Chamblee. He lived life fully, always setting goals, enjoying challenges and the newness of every day.
He served his country as a Motor Machinist Mate in the United States Navy – saving many lives and his ship at Omaha Beach on D Day. He was a recipient of the Legion Medal of Honor from France. Dub owned Brown Auto Service for 62 years and was Mayor of Chamblee for 18 years. He left footprints to be remembered.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 5, 2015 in the chapel of McDonald and Son Funeral Home. A reception will follow the service.
