Kathleen Ann Snavely, 75, of Cumming, Georgia, passed away on Saturday September 26, 2015 at her home after a four-month battle with uterine cancer. At her death she was surrounded by her immediate family of three siblings, three children and one grandchild as well as their spouses.
Kathleen was born October 21, 1939 in Compton, California to the late Ellen and Henry McCarty. Kathleen was the oldest of four children. She is survived by her daughters Karen Little, married to Jim, and Mary Snavely who reside in Cumming, Georgia. Her son Michael and his wife Chrissy reside in Virginia. She has a granddaughter, Malia, who also resides in Cumming, Georgia. Her siblings, fraternal twins, Bobbie Bystedt and Dick McCarty as well as sister Patricia Sharpe all reside in southern California.
She attended Pius X high school in Downey, California and shortly after marrying her high school sweet heart, James Snavely (who died in 1997), they moved to Fallbrook, California to raise a family. Kathleen was an RN Emergency room nurse at the Fallbrook Hospital for over 25 years. Her husband James was in the insurance business. Kathleen was active in the Catholic church, loved to play bridge and any card or board game and took numerous trips to Cancun, Europe, as well as ocean cruises. Kathy also loved music, especially country and line dancing. After her children were older she and her husband bought a large motor home and began traveling around the country and on one trip fell in love with Shell Knob, Missouri and relocated to a 14-acre parcel of land with a pond and near Table Rock lake. In 2000 Kathy was tired of her riding mower and 14 acres to maintain, so she sold the property and moved to Cumming in a house across the street from her daughter Karen and husband Jim Little, who live on Lake Lanier.
Kathy has been an active member in the local bridge club and line dancing group and is famous for her love of animals, especially those with disabilities. She made frequent driving trips to Colorado and Virginia to visit her relatives and flying to California. Her quick wit and sense of humor along with her large heart will be greatly missed and not forgotten.
