Lester was born on August 22, 1925 in Dawson County to the late James Jewell Duncan and Emma Dale Cape Duncan. He accepted Christ at a young age and attended Harmony Baptist Church during his childhood.  After his marriage to his sweetheart Floistine Nix, they bought a home in Gainesville, Georgia.
