Walter Edward Cory (March 24, 1935 to September 20, 2015) died after a long illness. Born in Loranger, LA, Walt graduated from Amite High School and Southeastern Louisiana University. He served in the US Army and US Marine Reserve.
In 1959, he married Bobbie Ruth Husser of Hammond, LA. Walt tested into the fledgling Delta Airlines computing department, where he helped develop the very first computerized Airline Reservation System. He then went to General Electric and provided computer programming support to the Saturn V Rocket program. Walt retired from GE with 30 years of service. He and Bobbie also hosted 13 Foreign Exchange students over 20 years, enjoying both the cultural experience and visiting them in their host countries.
Walt is survived by his wife Bobbie, his daughter Donna Cory (Jim Garner), daughter Shannon, brothers Bill Cory (Freddie) and Bob Cory (Sharon), sister Ellen Davis, and granddaughter Lauren Garner. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Ed and Blanche Cory of Amite, LA, and brother Dick of Roseland, LA.
Services will be held at the Johns Creek Baptist Church in Johns Creek, GA on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with visitation at the family home following. Services will also be held in Gonzales, LA at the First United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 3, at 2:00, with visitation starting at 1:00 pm.
