Patricia Rainey Standard, 71, of Clayton, GA, went to be with the lord on September 17, 2015. Pat was born in Cartersville, Georgia, the daughter of the late Mildred and Charles Rainey. She was preceded in death by her parents and infant son, Brian David. Pat is survived by her loving husband of 53 Years, Dave Standard; daughter and son-in-law Amy & Bill Pauls and their children Haley and Lindsay, of Roswell, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Lori Standard, and their children, Ethan, Parker, Kaitlyn, Emma Kate and Elijah, of Roswell, Georgia.
Pat and Dave moved to Clayton in 1995 to enjoy their home on Lake Burton, after living in Stone Mountain and Duluth for 15 years. Family, her faith and community service were extremely important to Pat. Always involved in her children’s lives, Pat served as PTA President, Cub Scout leader, Girl Scout leader, and Vacation Bible School leader. She served as an official “play lady” at the pediatric cancer clinic at Egleston campus of Children’s Healtcare of Atlanta. Pat incorporated fun into everything she tackled, and completed a course to be a certified Clown, where she was known as “Snickers.”
Pat was always involved in any community in which she lived and quickly became involved in the local community in Clayton and Toccoa, Georgia. Pat was a member of the Daughters of The King at Saint James Episcopal Church in Clayton and then at St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Toccoa. She was a co-founder of Community Pantry in Clayton, which fills the gap for vouchers for non-food items for needy individuals in the community. For three years, Pat was a Rabun County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), serving as the voice for children in the court system. Active in St. Matthias Episcopal, Pat was eager to share the traditions of the church and the message of Jesus with the children and helped start the Children’s Chapel program to accomplish this. Knowing of the growing needs to provide food for needy families in Toccoa, Pat had a vision to expand the Food Pantry at St. Matthias. With the help of many volunteers and support of the church the pantry grew and became a independent non-profit, and is now known as Neighbor 4 Neighbors, providing food for over 700 individuals a month. Through her work with the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, she became aware of the Food 2 Kids program, which provides weekend meals for school aged children who deal with food insecurity. Learning of the needs for such a program, she helped to expand the Food 2 Kids Program in Stephens County. In just over five years, the program has grown from serving 10 children a week to 190 children a week currently.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26 at St. Matthias Episcopal Church, 995 East Tugalo Street, Toccoa, GA 30577.
