E. Lawton Wofford

Graveside Services for E. Lawton Wofford, 79, of Hiawassee, are scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20, at Yonah Memorial Gardens located beside Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, 245 Central Avenue, Demorest, GA with Rev. John Kay officiating.

Mr. Wofford died Friday, Sept. 18, 2015 at Northeast Georgia  Medical Center following a sudden illness. Born September 29, 1935, in Gainesville, he was the son of the late C.L. (Bud) Wofford and Clarice Browning Wofford and was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Gibson Wofford.

Mr. Wofford was a member of Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of the Sharp United Methodist Men.

He attended Gainesville High School, Clemson University, and the University of Georgia. He worked in the poultry industry all of his life and served as President of the Georgia Poultry Federation. He was honored by the U.S. Poultry and Egg Association as a recipient of the Workhorse of the Year award. He had been an active Rotary member for many years and had served in numerous offices. He received the Paul Harris Award, the highest honor a Rotarian can receive. He was currently serving as the President of the Rotary Club of Lake Chatuge-Hiawassee.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, John Lawton and Linda Wofford; daughter and son-in-law, Clair and A.D. Frazier; grandchildren, Jason Davey and wife, Tinnelle and Jamie Davey and wife, Marquanne; four great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Frank Moore; and best friend, dance partner, & traveling companion, Carmolita Haney.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Sunday at the graveside.
