Bobby G. “Bob” Holcombe, age 82 of Clarkesville, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015.
Born in Carroll County, Georgia, on May 20, 1933, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Dora Reece Holcombe. Mr. Holcombe was retired from Western Electric/AT&T with 44 years of service. He was a member and deacon at Mt. Carmel Christian Church in Decatur where he also served as Youth Group Leader and Church League coach. Recently, Mr. Holcombe attended Clarkesville Church of God. He was a U.S. army veteran who was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Through the years, he enjoyed farming, fishing, gardening, working in the yard, and golfing in his spare time.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Patsy Martin Holcombe; brother, Walter W. “Pete” Holcombe; sister, Geraldine Beck.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Tim Holcombe of Cumming; Tony and Pam Holcombe of Tampa, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Jim Bennett of Dalton, Georgia; grandchildren, Ben Holcombe, Chris Holcombe, Cole (Lindsay) Bennett, Ethan Bennett, Perry Holcombe and Drew Holcombe; great grandchildren, Brax and Briggs Bennett; companion and special friend, Sue Terry of Cornelia.
Funeral services are 11 am Thursday, September 17, 2015, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Tim Tanner officiating. Interment will follow at 4 pm at Bowdon First United Methodist Church, 917 Commercial Street, Bowdon, Georgia 30108, with Rev. Vic Holcombe officiating and military honors provided.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
