Charles R. Tidd

Charles R. Tidd, 86, of Cumming, GA and Amelia Island, FL said his final goodbye on September 8, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Frances Baltes Tidd and his children: Charlie and Dawn Tidd, Beth and John Devaney, David Tidd, Mark and Tina Tidd, Allison Tidd Williams and Eric and Kate Tidd. Grandchildren Chad and Reagan Tidd, Nathan and Allison Tidd, Meghan and Matthew Cavin, Jack Tidd, Mark and Megan Tidd, Luke and Harruka Tidd, Brandy Tidd Blue, Evan Tidd, Zoe Tidd and Sidney Tidd, as well as 10 great-grandchildren.

Charlie was a veteran of the US Navy. Following his discharge from the Navy,his career spanned 37 years with Insurance Company of North America (INA)/Cigna. After retiring he started a new career – volunteering with the National Pond Society helping build a garden at Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital, was a founding member of the Georgia Garden Railway Society and was certified as a Forsyth County Master Gardener,  volunteering hundreds of hours in education and community gardens projects. In addition to landscaping their property, Charlie and his wife constructed ponds and a Garden Railway which was featured on PBS’s  “Gardening in Georgia”, DIY TV, in several publications and on numerous Garden Tours and visited by persons throughout the US as well as several foreign countries.

He was an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed camping, boating and fishing with his family.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the McDonald and Son Funeral Home Chapel. The family invites guests to a reception immediately following the service.
