Thomas Theodore Guins, Jr., age 89, of Cumming passed away Thursday, September 3, 2015. Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Theodore and Lula Guins, two sisters, and his devoted wife of 68 years, Hazel Juanita O'Kelly Guins, who is awaiting his return home in heaven. Thomas served his country nobly in the United States Navy, serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was an extremely proud veteran. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Marty Averett of Dahlonega, numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
He moved to Atlanta as an infant and claimed Georgia as his home. He resided in Cumming at the time of this death. Thomas was an active member of Rehoboth Baptist Church, serving at one time as a deacon.
Always the entrepreneur and a savvy businessman, he established a specialty advertising company from which he retired. He remained very active in the business until a week before his death.
His hobbies included woodcutting, fishing and camping. He made numerous cross-country trips with his wife and friends, exploring this great nation.
Graveside memorial services for the immediate family will be held Saturday, September 5, 2015, at 3:30 p.m. at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. Entombment will follow at Sawnee View Gardens Mausoleum next to his loving wife, who welcomes him home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Forsyth County Humane Society No-kill Shelter or The Wounded Warrior Fund.
