Melanie Means Baker, age 58, of Gainesville, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 following an extended illness.
Mrs. Baker was born on June 29, 1957 in Salisbury, NC. to the late Joseph Daniel and Mary Ann Wetmore Means. She graduated from Clemson University having received her master’s degree in education. She was an active member of Redeemer Fellowship Church. Before her illness required her to retire, Mrs. Baker had been a loyal and dedicated teacher with over 30 plus years of service. She began teaching in South Carolina, and then after her family moved to Georgia, she continued teaching in Georgia. Her last position was with the Jackson County Board of Education.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Michael Baker, of Gainesville; step-mother, Hilda Means, of Mt. Airy; daughter, Michelle Baker, of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Matthew Baker and Brandon, of Gainesville; brother, Mike Means, of Cornelia; sisters, Tammy Keller, of Cornelia; Terri Boeckel, of Suwanee; grandchildren, Micah Baker, Norah Baker, and Jonah Baker.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Chestnut Mountain Presbyterian Church, 4675 Winder Highway, Flowery Branch, Georgia 30542 with Rev. Matthew Baker and Rev. John McKnight officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, September, 4, 2015.
