Misako Muramatsu Boos, 83, passed away peacefully at Embracing Hospice on August 27, 2015 after suffering two ischemic strokes 13 days earlier.
Misako, or “Achan” as she was known to her children and grandchildren, was born on April 19, 1932, in Tokyo, Japan to Setsu Muramatsu and Sadao Kanamaru. She traveled the world after leaving Japan as a newlywed to Frederick B. Smith in 1959 - living in the Philippines, Spain, England, Germany and 5 different states in the US. Misako proudly earned her American citizenship in 1961. Her second marriage to Jack Boos was in 1990. Both Jack and Fred preceded her in death in 2005 and 2007 respectively. In San Diego, CA, Misako had a lucrative 20-year sales career for Neiman Marcus Precious Gems. Earlier in her life she developed her talents in oil painting, charcoal brush painting, landscaping, and ikebana. Later in life she acquired a passion for watching sports especially tennis (Roger Federer, Kei Nishikori), PGA golf, and her grandson’s lacrosse team (South Forsyth High School). She also loved playing bridge with her friends and neighbors at Brannon Oak Farm, and found peace in nature – any beautiful garden, ocean or mountain scene, and the birds in her backyard.
Misako was a loving, caring, and devoted mother and grandmother. She captured the hearts of friends and acquaintances with her enthusiasm, happiness, and warm affection for all. Her memory will be carried on by her children, Tom Smith and Tracy Farnen; her son-in-law, Ted Farnen; her grandchildren, Allison and Reed Farnen; her brothers, Sadakazu Muramatsu and Teruo Muramatsu; her sisters, Teiko Ponitcello, Yoko Kishi, Amy Yocum, Kyoko Masakawa, and Yasuko Okada; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
