Mrs. Margie Thomas Slater, 84 of Gainesville died Sunday August 2, 2015 peacefully at her residence.
Born in Banks County, Mrs. Slater had lived in Hall County for most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Jim and Maude Jump Ray. Retired from New Holland Mill, Mrs. Slater was a supervisor over the weave room. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Ann T. Collins and Michael Baker, Gainesville; stepchildren, Sherry Kendrick; Barry Slater; Dennis Slater and Mortaine McCarthy; grandchildren, Brian and Brent Collins, Tammie Postell and Dwight Postell; great grandchildren, Kaitlin McEachin; Kirsten McEachin; Chelsea Dickerson; Ravin Cato; Jessica Robinson; Jairin Cato; Tyler Collins; Justin Collins; Aiden Slater; Bishop Slater; Jaiden Freeman; Lee Kendrick and Myles Slater; four great great grandchildren; sisters, Rose McConnell, Oakwood; Violet Ruth Davis, Homer. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Mrs. Slater is preceded in death by her husbands, Albert Thomas and Berlan F. Slater; son, Douglas R. Thomas and granddaughter, Tyra Mechelle Collins.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, Mrs. Slater will be missed by all that knew her.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday August 5, 2015 in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Rev. Junior Jones will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Alta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday August 4, 2015 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and again Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
